Hello, Frey-day! It's been an incredible week for me, and I'd love to use today's post to share all the amazing things that happened!

1) Sunday, June 13th (6 year anniversary): "Be it known that Jessica Frey has experienced the Adrenaline Rush of a Lifetime, by willfully leaving a perfectly good airplane at 13,000 feet, and flying earthward in excess of 120mph, and piloting a high tech ram air parachute to a SAFE touchdown. Thus entitiling them to be included among the elite few who can call themselves SKYKIVERS!!!!!" Yes. I did all of that. With tears and screams and possibly a few choice words :)

2) My brother took the plunge Sunday as well and is now engaged to the wonderful Megan!! I am absolutely thrilled, love them, and cannot wait for their wedding next summer!!

3) My photos from Gabrielle & Jeff's wedding were chosen as a front page feature on The Wedding Chicks Blog--the same wedding inspiration blog that featured my Alice in Wonderland photo shoot! So excited about the exposure. You can view it here: WeddingChicks.com and I ask that if you have a second, please leave a comment! It helps with my rankings ;)

4) National Geographic Traveler/PDN announced that my Mt. Rushmore photo that you guys voted #5 back in May in the popular vote has now been chosen as a FINALIST by the judges to be published in the August edition of PDN where winners and the grand prize photo will be announced! YIKES!!! Thank you to everyone who voted!

5) I viewed a sneek peek at my newest Bakersfield Life cover!! I am beyond humbled and excited to now have 8 covers for them and enjoy working for such a great local magazine. This month I HAD to go to 8 bars and photograph summer drinks :) Not a bad assignment! Look for it out on June 26th in the Californian or online at www.BakersfieldLife.com 6) If you've made it this far, congrats! Now for some special news as a reward....This is the end of this blog! Yup, I am in the process of creating a new blog site that is more streamlined, has bigger photos, and just lookes awesome-er. Vegas Wedding! Bakersfield Wedding Photographer

Last Wednesday, I got to hang out and photograph Mike & Vicki's Mandalay Bay wedding! It was so much fun to witness their love and photograph everything but the ceremony (Mandalay Bay photogs covered that) for them. Mike kept suprising Vicki with little gifts and cards throughout the day along with more bling than expected at the alter...way to go man!

Daniel + Esmerelda Wedding! Bakersfield Wedding Photographer

June 5th I had the honor of photographing Daniel and Esme's wedding at the beautiful San Clemente Mission here in Bakersfield. They had such a fun wedding party and I knew they'd be up for anything...mustaches I made from felt, fabulous red balloons, and of course the lovely Bakersfield weather! We took some time in between the ceremony and reception and headed out to get some unique wedding party photos and even cooled off with refreshing McDonald's beverages! Freyday - My Anniversary!

I love Freyday's! Especially in June since it's time to gear up for another beautiful Saturday wedding. I'm especially looking forward to tomorrow's wedding at the Noriega & Marriott hotel, and the awesome vendors I'm getting the pleasure to work with!

On another note, since this is my 'personal' day to post I also get to celebrate my 6th Anniversary being Mrs. Eric Frey this weekend and am so excited! It feels like yesterday we got married in Texas and I love that I got to scan in (yes, scan...back in 2004 photographers were not using digital, can you believe it!) some of my favorites. My photographer shot all in 5x5 film, which I actually have never seen again. Here are a few I wanted to share and say Thank you again to my family, Eric's family, our wedding party, and all of our friends and family who were there to witness our special day!

Old Glory Ranch Eric's only decision on the wedding was that he wanted miniature donkeys...who carried water bottles in baskets to our guests during cocktail hour :) Only in Texas!

Oh yeah...you better belive I had some "glass" slippers to ride in my carriage with my prince charming! Love this shot of our wedding party :)

Joe + Sofie Engagements - Bakersfield Wedding Photographer

I can't believe it, but I've lived in Bakersfield for exactly 2 years this month. In those two years, I've really come to love our downtown and how unique it is with so many awesome buildings to work photographs around. When Joe & Sofie told me they wanted their engagement session to represent "Bakersfield" I couldn't have been more excited to do an evening photo walk with them. During our walk, Joe informed me of all the locations he grew up going to with his grandparents and parents. There's so much history and I'm honored to be able to photograph this new legacy that Sofie an he will build together!This next photograph was fun since we actually got yelled at by the cops who were conveniently across the street...we decided it was worth it though to get this shot! How stunning are these two?!

We also stopped at Jastro park, which holds a lot of meaning since Joe's grandparents first met there on the exact same tennis courts!
These two loved to dance and it was so fun watching them as though no one was watching :)

Bass Lake Engagements - Wedding Photographer

I love Bass Lake. I was up there for Memorial Day and met up with Megan & Matt who have also been spending their summers playing on the lake. We went behind Ducey's and hung out on the pier, checked out the snack shack, and enjoyed the absolutely beautiful 75 degree day! Thanks guys (and sweet puppy) for a really fun session, you two are so super cute together! Go Bulldogs!

So, I just took that photo of the coffee I made (yes...I made the pretty heart with my spoon....so creative! haha) and I'm thinking to myself, "self. May just flew by." Gabrielle & Jeff's Tehachapi Garden Wedding - Bakersfield Wedding Photographer

May 22nd it was supposed to snow. With a 55 degree chill in the air and brave bridesmaids in beautiful short spring dresses I got to photograph a beautiful wedding ceremony in a Tehachapi garden for Jeff and Gabrielle. I've been pretty good lately about focusing entirely on moments and capturing the perfect photos during the ceremony....but this time I cried. I was in the aisle squatting to get the perfect angle and tears started rolling out the corners of my eyes. It was such a sweet and loving ceremony and it hit me that I get to capture those moments for these two wonderful people that they'll hopefully cherish for a very long time to come! Congrats you two...I know you'll have a lifetime of happiness and I can't thank you enough for trusting me to preserve that day for you!

Engagements on the Kern River - Bakersfield Photographer

Freyday - Happy Memorial Weekend! Bakersfield Photographer

It's Frey-day! How many of you out there just pronounced that "Fray" day? Raise your hand, it's okay! I'm going on 6 years as a married woman with that name and sometimes wish the 'e' would disappear so it would be pronounced correctly :) SO. Freyday is the same pronounciation as Friday..... Anyway. Happy Memorial Day weekend! Being a military spouse and having several military clients along with family who served, it's important to me to remember those who have given all for my freedom. "To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to 'Taps."

The Moment of Remembrance is a step in the right direction to returning the meaning back to the day. What is needed is a full return to the original day of observance. Set aside one day out of the year for the nation to get together to remember, reflect and honor those who have given their all in service to their country."

So enjoy the time with your family and on Monday, please remember those who have served this country and the families of those men and women. Special shout out to Martinez, Mason, and Hill who are clients of mine currently serving overseas. You and your families are constantly in my prayers for a safe and quick return! Also, shout out to my clients who have served and are currently home: McClelland, Layton, Flores, Williams, Wolfe, Orr, and Brobyn

Congratulations Class of 2010! Bakersfield Photographer

With close to one more week of school left here in Bakersfield, I thought I'd post about my most recent HS Senior. I had the pleasure of photographing my friend and local author Dana Martin's (check out her writer's blog here!) daughter who will be graduating next week from high school! When I heard this fashionista loved my yellow couch from before I figured out a way to take it to a different setting and we were able to get it on top of the downtown parking garage.
Even with a bit of rain, I loved this session and the uniqueness of it! Special shout out to Bosco and Jaisyn for couch carrying/assisting/styling and to Jenny from Little White Dress! Flashback love engagement session- Bakersfield Photographer

He was a football player. She was a Cheerleader. Now they're getting married! Megan and Josh are such a fantastic couple and after spending an hour with them in the blustery wind on their old stomping grounds, it was evident their love for each other ran deep. We met on the football fields at Bakersfield High School (BHS..go Drillers!) where they went to school together. We took the idea and ran with it...literally. I made them run with a football, make out under the bleachers, write love notes on the locker room chalk board, and just enjoy each other in the stands. Here are a few of my favorites....

You've seen this stylish senior before (blog post here) but she wanted to do a second shoot out in a field that represented more of her culture. Freyday full of Disneyland!

Happy Freyday! Today's post is all about my trip to a land where wearing sparkly tiaras is acceptable and encouraged :) Ever since I was a little girl, I've been passionate about the magic that is Disney and as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to the pure joy and excitement that you feel when you walk through the gates into the park. It doesn't matter that I've been there 100 times or even worked at Disney World...I still become full of happiness and instantly become full of wonderment as I walk into my happy place. For the past 6 years, I've tried to go in May to celebrate my birthday to the fullest and was excited we were able to make that happen again this year :)

My wonderful husband met me while I was working at WDW, so he knew what he was getting into...and no, Eric, it wasn't a phase ;) He's still my Prince Charming and puts up with a 28 year old wanting (needing?) to walk around with the biggest, sparkliest, coolest tiara ever. Here are a few photos from our trip along with some 'artistic' balloon photos I managed at the end of the day.

***For any of my clients or friends...I am now the PROUD owner of a Southern CA Annual Pass, so let me know if you ever want to head to Anaheim on a weekday!I used to work in ToonTown (at WDW) with all of the characters and it still holds a special place in my heart :)

What a beautiful day it was in Austin as I met Ashley & Harrison on the Lamar bridge for their engagement photos. Harrison had recently proposed to Ashley on that same bridge a few weeks prior and I was so excited to be in town and able to take these photos for them. Maternity Photos - Texas Photographer

While home in Austin for Natalie & Justin's wedding, I got the opportunity to reunite with old friends and capture some special times in their lives for them....from belly's to families to a few engagement sessions. I'll be sharing those with you over the next few blog posts. Since I'm a native and very proud Texan, getting to share my hometown and the beauty that is Texas is very exciting for me! Enjoy! We took a few photos in the nursery and I made Katy read to me from her "What to Expect When You're Expecting book" to elicit some giggles...For any new dads...I thumbed through this book and could not stop laughing. It's a must read and a great baby gift for a daddy-to-be :) It has chapters such as "How to use your baby as a prop" and "How to read Sports Illustrated to your baby"I went to Texas A&M with Katy and Rob and being that Rob was in the Corps of Cadets I was not surprised in the least to find a baby A&M passifier in the nursery :)My mother used to eat Blue Bell ice cream when she was pregnant with me and it was so funny to know that Katy is now doing the same thing 28 years later...best ice cream EVER. If you know me, I'm obsessed with it!

Justin + Natalie's Wedding - Austin Wedding Photographer

It's Freyday! Today I want to share with Justin& Natalie's wedding from last weekend. They are one of those amazing couples that captures your heart with their obvious love for each other. I've been blessed to know Natalie for a while now and her genuine smile and big heart for everything is such a breath of fresh air.

They had their beautiful wedding last weekend at The Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. Growing up in Austin, everyone knows the Driskill is legendary as one of the world's finest hotels and historic in their beautiful decor. Natalie designed such an elegant reception in their ballroom with beautiful blue lighting, magnolia flowers and touches of gold and white everywhere. She designed and made both of her dresses with the help of a good friend in New York City and you could hear constant compliments on how stunning they turned out. Enjoy the photos and have a wonderful weekend!

Hello, April! It's wedding season! Last weekend I had the honor of photographing AJ & Erica's wedding at the beautiful Noriega House in Bakersfield, CA. They were so relaxed and you could tell how much love there was...and what a fun family with some delishious food made by Erica's aunts!

10 Years Have Flown By! Austin Wedding Photographer

Ya'll, it's Freyday!! In honor of being 'home' in Austin, Texas and my 10 year High School reunion around the corner (sigh...really? 10 years already?!) I wanted to share with you MY senior portraits as a proud member of the Class of 2000! Feel free to laugh...even my own mother didn't recognize me when these prints came back to us. I'd never had my hair done that way and never wore that much makeup...so I guess here are my 'glamour' shots:This is the reason that when I photograph HS Seniors, we make sure to get their true personality in a relaxed and fun atmosphere :) So that when you look back in 2020 (yikes!) you're not laughing too much at what you used to look like!

I've had the privilege to photograph the Martinez family twice now and love that I get to see baby J growing into a little man.I almost didn't recognize him from his newborn photos! I just loved their coordinating outfits and the facial expressions I was able to get. Champagne on the Green - Ultimate Bridal Event in Bakersfield, CA

Last Sunday, the Ultimate Bridal Event held it's Champagne on the Green event for local brides. I had so much fun getting to 'speed date' the lovely brides and their families and enjoyed the one-on-one time at each table I got to. What a great opportunity to have a day out with your girls, decorate a table, and meet so many amazing vendors while sipping on champagne and appetizers!

Brian was stationed in Bahrain for the Navy. Tina lives in Santa Monica. My cousin's wife's friend is Brian's sister. Brian proposed while Tina was visiting Bahrain and while she was in London on her way home I got a phone call while I was in Lake Tahoe about their wedding in Reno, NV. Got it? ;) If not that's okay...just look at the pictures below. That's what it's all about anyway, right?

And now to the fun stuff. I was SO excited to finally meet Tina and Brian, who is now home and back from deployment, for their LA engagements this past weekend! I've never been to either the Getty Center or the Disney Concert Hall and was blown away by the architectural awesome-ness. The overcast skies created a fantastic diffuser for us as we wandered around Los Angeles getting to know each other and enjoying the stunning views of LA. It's Freyday!! Hope you're all doing well and have either restful or exciting weekends ahead. I'm gearing up for some LA engagement photos and the Bakersfield Ultimate Bridal Event's Champagne on the Green event over at Riverlakes Ranch! I've gotten a lot of compliments on 2 of my recent shoots, both the Alice in Wonderland shoot and the bridal "yellow" couch shoot. Freyday Free-for all Travel post - Bakersfield Photographer

Simply put, last Freyday was awesome. I got to check off one of my 'to-do before I die' things with my dad and bike across the Golden Gate bridge. Turns out, it's quite a workout, but a stunningly beautiful cool day made it all worth it. Plus, spending time with my family is always important to me! Here are a few of my personal travel photos for me to document and remember and if you keep going down, you'll find some of my landscape/skyline photos from the trip. Enjoy!Being the Texas family that we are, I sported my A&M gear while my dad wore his not so cool t.u. shirt...and of course we were stopped by several people who didn't understand how we could stand next to each other :) Gotta love college rivalries! View of San Fran from the other side of the bay: Of course we made a trip to Bourdain's to get some yummy fresh sourdough. I love the animals they're able to make! We stayed in Nob Hill, so I was able to capture some awesome skyline shots at different times during the day...I think the last shot is my favorite! It's so fun for me to get creative and use my photography skills (and hilarious joke-telling skills, oh yeah I said it.) to showcase the unique love between two people. It's Freyday!! Hi everyone...hope this week has gone well for you all. I've been so blessed to be busy with some amazing clients. Lots of engagement shoots to share in the upcoming weeks now that wedding season is upon us (I was also told it's now "fishing season" as well for those of you not into 'wedding season' haha!) . One of the best parts about my job is the fact that I get to combine photography with traveling...and today is one of those days! While in Vegas for WPPI, I got to meet up with my good friend Beth from Austin. :) It's so awesome getting to see her after 12 long years and getting the chance to re-connect with big hugs and a photo shoot! We found such a cool location to work with near our original spot, the Gypsy Den. Maureen, the owner, was gracious enough to let us come hang out in the eclectic array of chairs, doors, and awesome props. It took us a while to notice this Stratosphere wall connected with the real thing! How cool is that?

Santa Barbara Engagements - Wedding Photographer

Before leaving for WPPI, I had the opportunity to see one of my brides that currently lives in Virginia. She was home for a few days and asked if we could do their engagement photos in Santa Barbara where these two love birds met. Santa Barbara is one of my favorite cities in California and of course we had the perfect day of 70 degree weather and the warm California sun to work with! It was evident from the moment I jumped in the car with these two how happy and in love they are...it radiated as bright as the sun all day as Matt continued to keep a gorgeous smile on Jenny's face. Thanks you two for sharing stories with me, for showing me what "The Spot" hamburger was, for driving slowly around treacherous curves, and for a wonderful day ended in a stunning sunset! I can't wait for your wedding!

Viva Las Vegas!!

Wow. If I had only one word to describe my trip to Las Vegas for the 30th annual WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) Convention it would be humbled. Being surrounded by 10,000 other photographers who share the same love and passion as you do for 5 days was inspiring, overwhelming, wonderful, and down-right the best motivation to start off the 2010 wedding season with a bang! The night photos are taken from our 1am photo walk of MGM, New York New York, Excalibur, and Aria hotels.

I had the opportunity to travel with my fabulous friend, Jennifer Williams who also happens to be super talented and loves Irish music as much as I do :) We had so much fun together and managed to squeeze in 2 photo shoots...one of each other and the second with my good friend Shauna and her husband who we met at Aria. Birthday Cake photos - Bakersfield Photographer

We have some amazing friends here in Bakersfield, and I've loved getting to see this little guy grow up and can't believe he's now a 2 year old! So, to celebrate, I got him a cake and got permission to let him just dig in for me and my camera....Except we soon found out, this is not an ordinary 2 year old, and really didn't want to get his hands dirty! Lots of laughter ensued as we watched him get excited about a fork....

And then getting his hands cleaned after dad tried to show him the way....
And finally, we were done. Cake had gotten on his pants and he was not going to let the outfit get dirty!
Thanks guys for letting me be a part of his birthday celebration! I had a blast and can't wait to continue to be a part of his life!

Another week has flown by for me! I love this time of year in Bakersfield where it feels like spring and all the flowers are starting to blossom on the trees. You'll notice the two posts this week had gorgeous green grass in them and were both here in town! (Spring Bridal and Engagements) It's definately that time of year to take wildflower photos and I've got a ton of them lined up for the next few weeks.

I can't wait for this wedding! I got the chance to brainstorm with Erica on the type of engagement shoot she and AJ wanted, and we ended up using the 'winter-dead' trees and bright green grass to create a contrasting, cool shoot. Throw in some beautiful smiles, pops of color and a yellow chair, and I love how the final look came out. Enjoy!

Fashion/Bridal Shoot - Bakersfield Photographer

I've come to the conclusion that I LOVE styling photo shoots and using my creativity and vision to showcase my view on the world. When Ashley contacted me about doing another photo shoot together, I jumped on the chance to work with local vendors and see what we could come up with. My main concept was color and revolved heavily around the use of the beautiful yellow damask chaise lounge from Little White Dress. Add to it smoking hot dresses and the beautiful colors of nature, and here's what we came up with:

Happy Freyday everyone! This week, I wanted to share my thoughts on styling your photo shoots. I worked on a promotional shoot for my photography yesterday and spent time thinking of how I wanted my photos to come out prior to setting up the shoot. What colors did I want to use, how did I want the makeup, what type of background would suit my concept.....

If you get creative and plan out the look you want, we can work together to make your ideas come to life. This goes for family portraits, engagement session, even style up your baby! As a professional photographer, I get excited to know that a professional event desinger has been hired to make weddings look amazing...like what you see in magazines. That doesn't just happen by chance, but by lots of planning and thinking about the details. I've had the opportunity to see My Sorted Affair's designs, and always push for my brides to use a design, to work on a theme, to get creative...it will make for better photos, and doesn't always need to cost a fortune!

Look through magazines, look online...bring me clipings of what you'd like your 'look' to be styled around. It can just be the era of clothing you'd like to go for, it can be a neat prop that you found at an antique store, it can be designed around what you like to do, your hobbies....the more creative the better!

And since I mentioned it, here is a quick sneak peak from yesterday's photo shoot here in Bakersfield....I love spring!

Dog Photos! Bakersfield Photographer

Puppies! Yes, I am a dog-lover....and as most of you know, my 'baby' is my puppy, Miss Kayla. When my good friends wanted to include their bulldog, Rugsby in their family photo shoot this year I was excited. We had SO much fun using my sqeeky toys to get her attention! Rugsby was a good sport (who doesn't love a dog in a scarf?!) and I love the personality I was able to capture from her :) (the humans did well also..haha!) Strong Women - Bakersfield Photographer

This week's Freyday post is more of a constant thought I've had in my head for the past few days...

I've had a mixture of events this week that all seem to culminate with "strong women". I'd like to think I'm a part of that category and was raised to be a hard worker who could start and run her own business. I've been blessed the past 7 days with meeting so many inspiring women who left me in awe of what they've accomplished in their lifetime. The majority of these experiences came from my March assignment for Bakersfield Life (I'll be able to post photos soon...or you can see it on newstands Feb 27th) that I am so proud of. I find it energizing and uplifiting to see what can be accomplished when you put your mind to something and work hard for it.

While looking back at the women I met and photographed this week, my mother sent me a 30 page autobiography of my grandmother that she had been working on while being snowed it. My grandmother, Mrs. Betty Jane, is an incredible woman who served as a Lt. in the Air Force and a trained Flight Nurse. Check out this stunning photo I just received: And this one, which reminds me why I love being a wedding photographer: Getting to capture weddings, love and memories that your grandkids will look back on is so special for me. I love that my job allows me the opportunity to freeze history just as the photographer did for my grandparents back in 1951.

We've made it to the second week of the new "Frey-day" Free-for all blog post! I hope you all liked last weeks entry (or at least the concept)...and if you did, you should leave comments to make my day. :) Especially since this week was spent mostly on the couch recovering from wrist surgery and typing with one hand! Turns out, I'm not too bad at it, and I can still edit with my right hand, which is great. Also, if you missed it, I blogged new posts on Mon and Wed...photos from our Valentine's Day vintage pin up shoot, and one of the cutest families ever on their golf course.

Likes this week:

*pain medication and my sweet, loving, doting husband! Who also seems to have photos of me on morphine from recovery that you'll only see if we're really close friends! haha

* LOST has returned!!! O.M.G. I am wierdly obsessed with the show even though it makes me SO angry. Thankfully I have great friends who let me make my inquizzative comments during commercial breaks and answer my questions for me.

Dislikes this week:

* Having one hand.

* Sushi to go. It just doesn't taste the same when it's on my plate at home and not in the restraunt. What was I thinking?

Here's a photo from a project I'm working on for the March issue of Bakersfield Life. I adore horses and had a great time photographing out at M.A.R.E. (Click on the link to learn more about the program) It's an equine assisted program for children and adults with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges...really a wonderful place and I can't wait to hopefully volunteer some time with them.

I was able to photograph baby C when he was 7 weeks old (blog here) and love that I am going to get to watch his 1st year as I capture his growth with my camera. *Wolfgang Puck pizza!! I have fallen for the goat cheese, spinach & mushroom pizza with mozzarella, basil, and fresh tomato slices. yum!
*Dinner My Way! It's a place in Bakersfield off Coffee that makes dinner for you...and you just bring it home and eat it! I have 6 meals waiting to be eaten next week...no more cereal for dinner! (which also means having a happy husband...another like.)
*TheKnot.com As seen on the previous post, I got a awarded by Central CA brides as a top 2010 photographer! Super excited and thankful to be recognized!
*Bakersfield Life Magazine - Check your Saturday newspaper, the new Feb. issue will be inside...with a cover by me!

Dislikes:

*Starbucks wi-fi. I have an iTouch, so I have to steal internet and AT&T has made it difficult for me to figure out the "free" Starbucks wifi. Anyone know how to combat that??!
*Having surgery. I'll be in the OR on Monday to have a cyst removed from my wrist. boo.
*Not being at Lake Tahoe anymore! We had such an awesome week-long trip to relax, ski and enjoy the snow. If you want to see some photos, check out my gallery at Jessica Frey Photography The first 7 are from Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe - Bakersfield Photographer

Personal blog today! I first started my love of photography while traveling and was taken in by being able to capture landscapes. I've gotten the chance to get back to that this week...a week long vacation with my amazing husband. We're up at Lake Tahoe and with the huge snowstorms (Bako, LA...I know you're getting downpours and mudslides, so I'll take the snow!) took some time to explore the lake since the mtn. was closed for high winds. (boo.) Here are a few of my favorites from 2 days of exploring. Day 1 was before the storm and day 2 was after the first snowstorm. I hope you enjoy them...I personally love the contrast of these great piers with the warm wood against the cool snowy skies. Day 2...snow and wind!

Open World & Smiles From America -Bakersfield Photographer

About a year ago, I had lunch with another local photographer, Greg Iger who was working on an idea to develop an exchange of photos and photography with a city in Russia...and he had heard through some grapevine that I was a photographer who spoke Russian! Surprise! I actually took Russian classes from 7th grade until my junior year in college, and even lived in Voronezh for a month as an exchange student in 1998.

Fast forward to December 2009 and the Kern County Administrative Building and you can see Greg's hard work on display! We were able to work with a museum in the city of Umersk, Russia to create 2 displays, one here and one there. We held a contest of local Kern County photographers and sent over our best work and in return Russian photographers sent their best work. But not just any photos, images that captured the smiling joy of their native people. We wanted to dispel the myth that Americans and Russians are cold and joyless, i.e. work to much, are career-driven sad people. SO, Smiles From America was born and I enjoyed working closely with Greg to translate and help understand make sure nothing was "lost in translation!" Ok, without further ado, here are a few photos of our exhibit here in Bakersfield. Feel free to stop by the lobby anytime (it's right next to the Robobank Arena) and check out some great photographers! ADDED: The exhibit is moving to the Beale Library on Jan 15th which is 2 blocks east of it's location now off Truxton. It will be there until Feb 12th!! Go check it out!

You'll notice the placement, Russian images on the left along with similar American images on the right. The two ladies in the upper middle image could easily be sisters! My image of joy in the winter is on the right, taken in DC last Feb.

Here's a look back at the building of my booth (from my fabulously smart and awesome husband) to the final look, fashion show, and my friend Therese's booth for her wedding design company, My Sorted Affair. Enjoy!

The multitude of canvases and signs that gathered 2 days before the show! Kayla wasn't too happy about her 'running space' being taken over... Yeah, he's a stud. powertools and all. Solvang Trip - Bakersfield Photographer

For those of you who live in CA, do you ever see those billboards along the 5 for Andersen's Famous Pea Soup? Well, after finding a free weekend and wanting to spend some quality time with the hubby, we decided to head the 3 hours to Solvang where this pea soup is and the cutest little Dutch settlement. Surprisingly enough to my mother, I ordered the pea soup and actually really enjoyed it! Of course I documented our fun to share with you all! Enjoy!

It doesn't look fantastic, but it actually is...good thing they're famous for it!
We rocked it in the gift shop. I heart Pea Soup!
Here it is...settled a long time ago and super cute!
